A Small Step Towards a Greener, More Efficient Toastmasters Experience
By Saai Syvendra ·
Recently at my Toastmasters club (Dehiwala Toastmasters Club), we ran into a bit of a hiccup. The role-player books we had been using had run out. To keep things running smoothly, we decided to print and bind a fresh set of books. I had been using those books ever since I joined the club, but it wasn't until that moment that I stopped to think: was there a better, more convenient way?
And that's when the idea was born. 💡
I decided to create a mobile-first web app tailored specifically for Toastmasters role players: Timer, Ah Counter, Grammarian, and General Evaluator. The goal was to create an intuitive platform that simplifies report generation and sharing, making the whole process more convenient while also reducing waste. A small, yet meaningful step toward sustainability.
I decided to list this tool on Product Hunt. This was also my first time listing a product on the platform, so I was a bit nervous. But I did get a decent response, with a few upvotes. 🚀
To share this tool with the community, I posted on my LinkedIn profile. I received a lot of positive feedback and suggestions for improvements. 🙌 Receiving comments saying that they will also use it in their Toastmasters Clubs, gave me a sense of satisfaction and motivation to keep being creative.
This experience really made me realize how sometimes, just taking a moment to observe our everyday routines can unlock a sea of potential for innovation. It's easy to get stuck in the “this is how we've always done it” mindset, but even the smallest change can make a huge difference.
I'm excited to see how this initiative helps fellow Toastmasters clubs embrace a greener, more efficient future! 🌍💚
